Rules for Powers Quarry 2008

 

1.         Qualifying rounds will be held at designated shows.

2.         Only ponies 4 years old and over are eligible.

3.         More than one pony in each qualifying class may be selected to compete in the final     provided the judges agree that the standard is high enough.

4.         Pony and / or Rider once qualified are not eligible to participate in subsequent qualifiers.  This rule may be waived by the Show Committee in exceptional circumstances e.g. sale of pony or injury to ride prior to the final. Permission from the Oughterard Show Committee must be granted prior to any previously qualified pony or rider competing in subsequent qualifying rounds. Failure to do so will result in the entry not being accepted.

5.         On completion of judging at qualifiers the successful qualifier will be given all relevant entry documentation by the ring steward. This must be completed and returned, along with the appropriate fee, to the entries secretaries of the Oughterard Show within seven days, - this rule will be strictly adhered to.

6.         The registration documents of each pony must be produced before judging commences at the qualifying show and the day of the final.

7.         Registered Connemara Pony to be ridden by rider under 18 years on 01/01/08.

Birth certificates must be produced for inspection at qualifying rounds and on the day of the final.

8.         A registered Connemara Pony stallion to be ridden by rider over 14 years on 01/01/08. 

9.         Ponies must be registered in main Connemara Studbook.

10.       Jumping will be part of the qualifying rounds and final over plain rustic fences. 

              Qualifying rounds require 2 fences.  The final requires 4 fences.  Jumps should not exceed 90cms in height and 80cms in width. Entrants from shows that do not adhere to these rules will not be accepted 

11.       Plain Snaffle, Pelem or Double Bridle can be worn by ponies. Boots are allowed for the jumping phase only, and must be removed prior to the in-hand or flat sections. Martingales and spurs are prohibited.

12.       Performance Judge should be used at qualifying shows.

13.       Ponies will be judged on type, conformation, jumping technique, way of going and action in hand.

14.       All ponies must be Micro chipped for identification purposes prior to the day of the Final

15.       Random Dope Testing will be carried out on the day of the Final.

16.       Any objection or complaints must be lodged in writing with the show secretary within half an hour following the completion of the competition, together with €50, which is refundable in the event of the objection being upheld.

17.       The Oughterard Show committee in consultation with the sponsor reserves the right to amend the rules as may be deemed necessary.

 

Entry fee to Final:      €25.00

 

The Oughterard Show kindly acknowledges sponsorship from Michael Power, Power’s Quarry, Killola, Rosscahill, Co. Galway.

 

Prizes: 1st place pony €1,000, Inscribed Blanket and Cannonball Cup. 2nd Prize: €400. 3rd prize: €300. 4th, 5th and 6th prizes: € 100.  All other finalists will receive €50 and a rosette on appearance in the final.

Trophy to be presented to the breeder of the winning pony.

 

Points to be awarded as follows:

 

The competition will be judged in three phases giving total maximum points of 100:

 

Marking:

Phase 1—In Hand                                                  Phase 3 – Jumping

Confirmation  0-6                                                      0-10 for each fence.

Type 0-6

Movement 0-8

 

Phase 2 – Flat

Pony’s Manners and Performance 0-10

Riders ability 0-10

Overall Impression 0-10

 

In the event of a tie at the conclusion of judging the rider who is awarded the greater number of points in Phase 3 shall be winner.  If there is still a tie the Pony who gained the highest points in Phase 2 shall be declared the overall winner.
